Vegetarian diet gains popuiarity at SMC By Amy Lea Henrick t was Tommy Chong of “Cheech and Chong” fame who said, “That’s like my worst night mare: to wake up and be a vege tarian.” The truth is, you don’t wake up one day and poof! You’re a vegetarian. It’s a little more complicated than that. People decide to be vegetar ians for widely different reasons. Some feel remorse at the death of an animal. I know one vegetar ian who doesn’t like the taste of meat. And somebody once told me that they felt that in the early days of man it was okay to eat meat—they needed it to survive; but today man doesn’t need meat to survive, so why be so wasteful? Whatever the reason, vegetarians are becoming a growing segment of the popula tion. Evidence of this uprising is in the growing availability of vege tarian food on the market. Any (com. on page 3)
